Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-07-08

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the breve mobile app and website (together, the “Service”). Please read them carefully. By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

breve is operated by Felix Lindgren (publishing under the name “Brevelang”), based in Sweden (“breve”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). You can contact us at felix@brevelang.com.

1. Who can use breve

You must be at least 13 years old to use breve (or older where your country requires a higher minimum age, such as 16 in parts of the EEA). By using the Service, you confirm that you meet this age requirement and that you are able to enter into these Terms. breve is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly allow them to use the Service.

2. Your account

You can start using breve as a guest, without creating an account. Creating an account (with an email address, or by signing in with Google or Apple) lets you save your progress and access it across devices.

When you create an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information and keep it up to date
  • Keep your login credentials secure and not share your account
  • Be responsible for activity that happens under your account
  • Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission

If you use breve as a guest, your progress is stored only on your device and may be lost if the app is uninstalled or the device is reset. Creating an account is the way to keep your progress safe. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your data.

3. What breve is

breve is a language-learning app. It presents a feed of short videos in the language you are learning, with interactive subtitles you can tap to see word meanings, along with tools that track your vocabulary and progress.

The videos in breve are streamed from YouTube through YouTube’s official embedded player and are not hosted, owned, or provided by us. Your use of that video content is also subject to YouTube’s terms (see Section 4).

4. Third-party video and content

breve uses the YouTube IFrame Player API to play videos. By using breve, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/t/terms), and you acknowledge that the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) applies to data collected through the embedded player.

Video content is owned by the creators who published it on YouTube. We do not claim ownership of it. If you are a rights holder and have a concern about content shown in breve, please contact us at felix@brevelang.com.

5. Acceptable use and objectionable content

We want breve to be a safe place to learn. There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior.

When using breve, you agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
  • Submit, request, or attempt to surface content that is illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, abusive, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable
  • Harass, abuse, or harm another person
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other users’ accounts, or our systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, or use bots, scrapers, or other automated means to access it
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except where this is permitted by law
  • Attempt to download, copy, redistribute, or re-host video content played in the app

If you encounter objectionable content in the app, you can report it by emailing felix@brevelang.com. We review reports and act on them, which may include removing content and terminating the accounts of users who violate these Terms.

6. Subscriptions and payments

breve offers a free tier and an optional paid subscription (“breve premium”) that unlocks additional features and usage. The features included in the free and paid tiers may change over time.

  • Billing. Subscriptions are sold as auto-renewable subscriptions and are processed by Apple’s App Store or Google Play, depending on your device. Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
  • Auto-renewal. Your subscription automatically renews for the same period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period, at the price of the plan you selected.
  • Managing and cancelling. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not retroactively refund the current period.
  • Refunds. Payments are handled by Apple and Google, and refunds are subject to their policies. We generally cannot issue refunds directly for purchases made through the App Store or Google Play.
  • Price changes. If we change subscription prices, we will give you notice as required, and changes will not take effect until your next billing period.

Payment card details are handled by Apple and Google. We do not receive or store your card information. See our Privacy Policy for what subscription data we do process.

7. Our intellectual property

The breve app and website, including their design, software, logos, text, and learning features (but excluding the third-party video content played through YouTube), are owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own language learning, subject to these Terms. You may not copy, sell, or redistribute any part of the Service without our permission.

8. Educational disclaimer

breve is designed to support language learning, but we do not guarantee any particular result, fluency level, or learning outcome. While we work to keep translations and definitions accurate, language is nuanced and some content may contain errors or imperfect translations.

9. Service availability and changes

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, and we may add, remove, or limit features. We will try to give reasonable notice of significant changes where we can, but we are not required to. The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

10. Suspension and termination

You may stop using breve at any time and can delete your account as described in our Privacy Policy (in the app under Settings → Delete account, or by emailing us). We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.

11. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any content will be accurate or reliable. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, breve and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, progress, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you, and this clause does not affect mandatory consumer rights.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you may also be entitled to the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you live. Disputes will be subject to the courts competent under applicable law.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
